If you happen to have a slightly rainy day on Lake Garda, or simply feel like discovering one of the nearby Italian cities, Brescia is a perfect destination for a few hours of history, culture, walking and good food.

Easily reachable from Lake Garda, Brescia has an elegant historic centre filled with interesting places to visit. A great place to start is Piazza della Loggia, one of the city’s most iconic squares, before continuing on foot through the centre towards Piazza Paolo VI, home to both the Old Cathedral and the New Cathedral.

For those interested in history and archaeology, the Santa Giulia Museum and the nearby Brixia archaeological area are well worth visiting and offer a fascinating look into the Roman origins of the city.

Another place not to miss is Brescia Castle, located on Cidneo Hill. In addition to its historic fortifications, it offers beautiful views over the city and is a great spot for a more peaceful walk.

Brescia is also a city that can simply be enjoyed without a strict plan. You can stop for a coffee, do some shopping, enjoy an aperitivo or discover some traditional local dishes.

It is therefore an excellent alternative for a different day away from the lake, especially when the weather is not at its best or when you feel like combining your stay on Lake Garda with the discovery of a nearby Italian city.
